On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Australia – Vietnam diplomatic relations, Madam Anna Burke began her official visit to Vietnam.
During her visit to Vietnam, Madam Anna Burke visited the Vietnamese Women’s Museum on May 23rd, 2013. She was warmly welcomed by the Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women’s Union, Madam Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa.
The Speaker expressed her interest in all the objects which are displayed on the themes of Women in Family and Women in History and Women’s Fashion. She wishes that she could have a chance to go and visit the museum in the future in order to learn more about the meaning of patterns on ethnic women’s textiles as well as the role of Vietnamese women’s contribution during the two resistance wars. She was also excited to receive the new WVM’s publication.
She expressed her feeling towards the museum in our comment book: “Thank you so much for giving me a chance to visit the museum so as to learn more about the role of Vietnamese Women’s Museum during two resistance wars for independence of the nation. This is an inspired museum. I am happy to see such beautiful collections. Please continue to do the great work so that the next women’s generation has the chance to reach their full potential.
After visiting the Vietnamese Women’s Museum, Madam Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women’s Union and Member of the Central Party Committee discussed and shared her thoughts with the Speaker about the progression and challenges faced with the implementation of gender equality in the two countries. Specifically, she discussed the models for domestic violence prevention and support for victims of domestic violence, trafficking, as well as activities of the project “Raising awareness about women’s rights” “Enhancing women’s capacities in the safe production, promotion, and utilization of indigenous vegetables in Vietnam”.
