The exhibition “Stories of Resilence: Women living with disasters”

The opening ceremony of the exhibition “Stories of Resilience: Women living with disasters” was held at the Vietnamese Women’s Museum on March 7th 2016. The exhibition is part of a project that focuses on enhancing the capacity of women in disaster risk reduction adaptation. The project is being implemented by the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) with support from UN Women.

The exhibition provides an insight into the negative impacts of natural disasters, floods and rising sea-levels on women in Quang Binh and Thua Thien Hue – the storm epicenter of Vietnam’s central region. Personal stories told by a single mother battling against storms alongside images of devastated houses and fields promise to move visitors.

The role of VWU is also clearly shown in the exhibition. Through training workshops, VWU has enhanced the awareness and skills of disadvantaged women in how to be prepared against natural disasters in order to ensure their safety and property. Women therefore become more active in coping with the impacts of natural disasters.

The exhibition is open to the public from March 7th to March 31st at the Vietnamese Women’s Museum.
