Releasing the book “40 years of Going, Loving, and Writing”
On June 17th, journalist Huynh Dung Nhan released the book “40 years of Going, Loving, and Writing” at the Vietnamese Women’s Museum. The book depicted his journal career. This is one of the activities taking place in Hanoi on the occasion of the 98th celebration of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 –June 21, 2023).
“Going, Loving, and Writing” – since I entered the writing profession, I have bestowed upon myself this slogan. Upon retirement (in 2015), I began allowing myself to reflect, evaluate, and rewrite the most memorable moments of my nearly half-century-long journey in journalism.” – Journalist Huynh Dung Nhan shares the reason behind the creation of his book.
The book was authored by Huynh Dung Nhan and started in early 2021, but it remained unfinished when he suffered a stroke and had to be hospitalized. The latter part of the book was completed in late 2022, while the author was still partially paralyzed and primarily wrote using a mobile phone. The book “40 Years of ‘Going, Loving, and Writing'” consists of four parts:
Chapter 1: Memories – introducing the author’s journey into the profession during their studies in literature and journalism, their beginnings in poetry writing, and their time working at Tuoi Tre newspaper, Lao Dong newspaper, as the Editor-in-Chief of Nghề Báo magazine, and as the Deputy Head of the Professional Affairs Department at the Vietnam Journalists Association.
Chapter 2: Highlights – featuring notable journalistic works by the author, along with 15 stories and experiences related to those works.
Chapter 3: Theoretical Articles on Journalism – comprising the author’s articles in the field of journalism theory, providing readers with insightful and practical perspectives on professional activities and the creation of journalistic works.
Chapter 4: Contributions from Journalists, Writers, and Journalism Lecturers – presenting articles written by journalists, writers, and journalism lecturers about Huynh Dung Nhan, the journalist.
Journalist Pham Quoc Toan, former Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association, shared at the book launch: “Huynh Dung Nhan never settles down; he always immerses himself in reality. That’s why his journalistic works are very detailed, vivid, and lifelike. Huynh Dung Nhan’s life is intertwined with journalism. This book is a story of life, a professional narrative within the life of journalist Huynh Dung Nhan.”
It can be said that the book “40 Years of ‘Going, Loving, and Writing'” is not just a regular memoir; all the articles are interwoven with an analysis of the professional elements of journalism in general and feature writing in particular. Readers can find in it the most specific and valuable professional lessons. Minh Hang, a student at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, expressed admiration for his teacher: “I sense a positive way of life through your articles and features, and this is crucial for future journalists like us. It helps us gain determination and pursue our love for the journalism profession.”
In addition to the content introducing the book by journalist Huynh Dung Nhan, the audience had the opportunity to admire art pieces created on the theme of portraits. Among them were numerous portraits of female journalists, which the author created throughout his artistic career. These portraits are preserved and displayed in the permanent exhibition of the Vietnamese Women’s Museum.
