Comic and Cartoon Contest launched to promote gender equality

On the afternoon of 24th November 2015, Belgium Embassy in conjunction with UN Women in Vietnam, the Vietnamese Women’s Museum, and Thai Airlines, jointly host a press conference for the launching of a Comic and  Cartoon Contest titled “Gender Equality. Picture it”. The conference has already attracted the attention of many students, artists, sponsors as well as non-governmental organizations and communications agencies.

Speaking at the event, UN Women Vietnam Representative, Ms. Shoko Ishikawa said: “Abolishing negative gender stereotypes is therefore essential to achieving gender equality. This contest is a chance for Vietnamese artists to challenge gender stereotypes through illustration via cartoons thus illustrating what gender equality looks like.”

Gender Equality. Picture it” is part of the International Campaign “16 Days of Activism to End Violence against Women and Girls” which runs from November 25 to December 10 to bring the message of a no tolerance stance against sexual violence as well as other forms of violence against women and girls all over the world.The award ceremony is scheduled to be held at Vietnamese Women’s Museum on 8th March 2016 on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
